Chimney sweeping and cleaning for Mosman homes. Every job starts with a camera inspection and ends with a signed compliance certificate — from the Federation houses around Balmoral and Beauty Point to the apartments off Military Road.
Every Eco chimney sweep follows a structured process designed to leave your chimney safe and your home spotless.
1. Pre-Sweep Inspection
Before we touch a brush, we inspect the chimney from the firebox up. We check for cracks, blockages, signs of animal nesting, and structural damage. For detailed inspections, we use HD camera diagnostics to see inside the flue.
2. Full Protective Setup
We lay industrial drop sheets around the hearth and seal the firebox opening. Our vacuum system runs continuously during the sweep to capture soot and debris at the source. Nothing enters your living space.
3. Sweeping & Creosote Removal
Using rotary brushes matched to your flue size, we remove all soot, ash, and creosote from the flue lining. For heavy creosote buildup (Stage 2 or 3), we use specialist chemical treatments before mechanical sweeping.
4. Post-Sweep Inspection & Compliance Certificate
After sweeping, we re-inspect the flue to confirm it’s clear and structurally sound. You receive a signed compliance certificate documenting the condition of your chimney — suitable for home insurance records or pre-sale property reports.

Federation flues doing a job they weren’t built for. Most of Mosman’s freestanding homes went up between 1880 and 1910, and many still run their original masonry flues. Those flues were sized for an open fire — put a modern slow-combustion insert in one and it runs cooler, draws slower, and loads creosote faster than the flue was ever designed for.
Salt air keeps the soot damp. Close to the water, soot holds moisture instead of drying out. Damp soot is what eats flashing, liners and dampers — which is why a harbourside chimney that looks fine from the roof can be corroding inside.
Leaf litter off the headland bushland. The sandstone gully forest at Georges Heights and Bradleys Head drops debris into open flues and outdoor aircon units alike. It’s the most common blockage we clear from Mosman chimneys at the start of winter.
In Mosman, the council asks you not to remove the chimney at all. The Mosman Residential Development Control Plan tells owners to avoid removing original architectural details and finishes, and it lists removing chimneys by name among the things to avoid. The council’s own guidance for house additions puts chimneys alongside windows and verandah details as elements that contribute a great deal to the integrity of the building and the character of the area. Across 13 conservation areas and roughly 500 heritage items, a working chimney is part of what the property is judged on, not an extra.
The flues here are unusually varied for one suburb. Mosman became known as the Federation suburb after the building boom around 1901, and the council documents eight separate style periods on top of that — Victorian Italianate, Federation Arts and Crafts and Queen Anne, Californian Bungalow, Inter-War Georgian Revival, Spanish Mission, Ocean Liner Moderne, Stockbroker Tudor and Sydney Regional. Each one brought a different chimney. The heritage listing for The Manor on Illuka Road, built in 1904, records chimneys that are tall and corbelled with terracotta pots — the most exposed type we work on, and the one where crown mortar and pots fail first. The listing for 42 Cowles Road, from around 1890, still records its original fireplaces.
Two things change how we work in Mosman. Only 34.9% of dwellings here are separate houses and 52% are apartments, most of them built through the 1950s and 60s and never fitted with a fireplace, so the chimneys that need attention are concentrated in that third of the housing, largely inside the conservation areas. And the council’s planning controls carry a dedicated section for steeply sloping sites, which is exactly what Mosman’s harbour topography produces: roof access here is more often a harness and a plan than a ladder against a wall. Tree canopy sits at 35%, with 29% of it on private land, so the leaf and twig load in a Mosman flue comes from mature garden planting standing right against the house.
We also provide professional aircon cleaning for Mosman homes. Most of our Mosman customers book both services — chimney sweep in autumn, aircon clean in spring — and we offer a combined booking discount.
Our eco-friendly aircon cleaning covers split systems, ducted systems, and multi-head units. Full disassembly, degreasing, pressure rinse, and sanitising.
